Feet Rough Like Sandpaper? Get Some Dried Lava Foam!

You might be surprised to learn that dried lava foam is one of the very best things that you can use to soften your feet.

Lava Foam Formation

When hot lava flows out from a volcano, the lava forms a top layer of foam.

This foam is comprised of:

  • magma
  • sand
  • ash

As lava foam moves down the volcano, the magma becomes contaminated by sand and ash. As the foam moves down the side of the volcano, it picks-up a lot of air pockets.

When dry, the lava foam creates what are known as pumice stones. Due to their airy nature, pumice stones are very light. In fact, you can place a pumice stone in a bowl of water and it will float on the top. (This is a good test for natural pumice stones. If the stone sinks in water, then it is not a natural pumice stone).

Podiatry Use of Pumice Stones

Pumice stones have a variety of uses, but one of their biggest claims to fame is their ability to safely remove calluses from the bottoms of your feet. This ability is due to the sandy texture of the stone. Additionally, as the lava foam was created it did a bit of cooking in all of the heat from the volcano. This often gives pumice stones a bit of a glassy texture, and this keeps the rocks abrasive, but not harsh, all at the same time.

Softening Your Feet with Pumice Stones

Softening your feet with natural pumice stones is simple.

The first step is to soak your feet in warm water for at least fifteen minutes.

Once the skin on your feet has had time to soften in the warm water, then apply a layer of soap to your foot.

Wet the pumice stone and rub it on all of the callused areas of your foot. While you do not want to be too aggressive, you should press firmly as you move the stone across your foot. This will allow the stone to remove any loose dead skin cells.

Callus Removal Warnings

If you are a diabetic, then you need to have your foot calluses removed by your podiatrist such as someone from Advanced Foot & Ankle Center of Palatine. It is not safe for you to remove your own calluses at home.

Removing a large callus is not a singular event. If you have a lot of callus build-up on your heels, then you should repeat the above procedure, no more often than every-other-day, until you are satisfied with your callus removal.

Conclusion

Using a pumice stone on your foot callus can make your feet much more smooth and sexy. Who knew that lava foam was so wonderful?
